Privacy Policy
Chronicle Cryptogram is a daily cryptogram game. This policy describes what we collect and why. We do not sell personal information and we do not show ads.
There are two versions and they behave differently, so they are described separately. The Android app is first because it is the shorter answer.
Android app
The Android app collects nothing and sends nothing. It has no account, no sign-in and no leaderboard, and it does not hold the Android internet permission — so it could not transmit anything even if it tried. There is no analytics or crash-reporting SDK in it.
Everything the app knows — which editions you have solved, your board, hint and check wallets, timers, and your settings — is written to storage on your own device and read back from there. It is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its storage.
Two of those files are marked as eligible for Android’s own backup and device-transfer features, so that a new phone can restore your progress. That backup is run by Android and stored in your Google account under Google’s terms; we never see it and it reaches no server of ours. You can switch it off in your device’s backup settings.
There is nothing to request the deletion of, and no deletion request to make: uninstalling the app is the whole of it.
Web app
The rest of this policy describes the browser version at chroniclecryptogram.com, which does have accounts and a leaderboard.
Account
Firebase Anonymous Authentication assigns a session identifier the first time you open the game so progress can sync before you sign in. That identifier is not your name or email.
Sign-in with Google is optional. When you sign in we receive your Google account identifier, display name, email address, and profile photo so we can show your agent plate, keep progress, and post times on the leaderboard. An anonymous session is linked to that Google account when you issue credentials.
Game progress
Puzzle mappings, timers, hints, checks, solves, and related stats are stored on your device in local storage. The same records are stored in Firebase Firestore under your auth identifier so they can sync across devices.
Notifications
The app sends no push notifications and registers no messaging token.
What we do not collect
We do not run advertising SDKs, do not sell data, and do not use your puzzles or account for profiling beyond operating the game and the leaderboard.
Retention and deletion
Local data stays on your device until you clear site data or uninstall the app. That includes puzzle progress, hint and check wallets, theme, and an optional packed press copy (type, plates, and the serial cached for offline play).
Any player — signed in or playing anonymously — can close their bureau file from Bureau File in the header. That deletes the account itself along with progress, hint and check wallets, start and solve records, and leaderboard entries. Aggregate edition totals (how many people started or finished a puzzle) stay, since they identify no one.
To request deletion without opening the app, email justinalandial@gmail.com from the address on your account, or with your codename if you played anonymously.
If anything remains, email justinalandial@gmail.com.
